Sharing the Pie!
If a large family of eight divided a pie into 8 equal slices, but one of the family members got hoggish and ate 2 or 3 slices, then someone would get cheated out of their piece of the pie. As silly and simple as this analogy is, that is exactly what has happened in America for the past year or two. The oil industry, both domestic or foreign, has selfishly overpriced it's product to the point that many Americans have gotten into trouble with their mortgages, credit cards, and other bills because they had to give to much pie into their transportation expense, and therefore leaving other obligations with nothing left to receive. The ONLY solution is to stop the family member from eating more than his share of the pie.
Bailing out isn't the solution!
If a boat has a large hole in it and is taking on water, bailing out the water is only a small temporary solution. If you want to keep from eventually sinking, one must also repair the hole as well as bailing out the water, or all of your bailing is in vain.
What is the solution?
In a Democracy, and a free society, making more money is part of the game, and the oil industry has the right to try to make all they can. But the consumer of that free society also has a right, and an obligation to make the oil company charge reasonable and competitive rates, and in a free Democracy the only reasonable way to do that is to compete with that industry so the supply and demand is kept in check. Thus, if the Government wants to stop the sinking ship, or keep the hoggish child from eating more than his share of the pie, the ruling authority should fund alternative means of fuel, or even offer special incentives to consumers that purchase alternative vehicles, such as electric cars, hydrogen, coal powered etc. Thus, causing the supply and demand to fall into place, forcing the hoggish child to only eat his share of the pie, and patching up the gaping hole in the sinking ship!
